I never asked for this. Where's my Dragon/Fighting/Anything else type Eevee?

That and Fairy just sounds like a way to fit all the cute pink blobs into a type, almost none of which I'm interested in as Pokemon.

HOWEVER, if Fairy manages to be a type where they fit in characters from myths or fairy tales and more closely related to magical things, then it might be cool.

What evidence exactly? It just seems like the more /vp/ talks about it, the more accepted it becomes. I personally haven't seen a lot of evidence other than "it kind of looks like a fairy" and "no es fake"

Fairies don't have to be just the cutsey pink blobs. It would basically encompass any mystical folklore creature that's more about subterfuge rather than brute force. Think of them as the conceptual opposite of dragons. Everything from pixies to leprechauns to genies to elves to ogres to gremlins.

For this reason, I also think we're getting a dragon eeveelution as well (since it's the last special type that still needs one.)

Because that could mean just about anything. New ability that changes type, something that messes with the type effectiveness of its moves, etc. etc. I'm not opposed to a new type, but I'm not saying its '100% confirmed' until its actually 100% confirmed.

Dragon only ever had one resistance though, and that's with steel, a type that's a mixed bag because you get shat on by earthquake.

Dragon type moves are also quite strong on the whole considering. Outrage especially considering virtually nothing resists it.

It'll make being a dragon a bit harder. Besides, if it is as you say that huge movepools really help to make them the variety of other types of moves at their disposal should more than compensate, making it a non-issue.

Well, how common fairy is will certainly play in.

Giving steel and poison a nice buffer while making sure that dragon is not a go-to great damage type should balance the game out quite nicely.

I like that it's NVE against fire too. The type needs all the help it can get.

How does being immune to dragon even work though? I mean seriously, nfe I'd be fine with, and it would probably open the door to 4x dragons resistances, which would hurt any dragon that clunks its outrage vs a rocky helmet, but that it just downright isn't affected by a dragon doesn't make sense.

We've gotten some contradictory information from them, but both point to a new type.

Smash had a segment where they were testing Sylveons type. They outright said it wouldn't be Normal, Water, Electric, Fire, Psychic, Dark, Ice, or Grass. Then Sylveon chopped a block of ice, so they said maybe fighting type? then a big guy fucking ruined her with a trash can, so they said no fighting type. Then they tested steel type by putting her in a trash can, she was not immune to Poison, so that leaves either new type or rock.

Pokebeach leaked some info a few days ago, including the fairy type matchups. They also accurately predicted all 4 of the new english pokemon names.

GF could start by making an offensive ice type, instead of pretending they can tank off hits from everything, and water is still by far the most OP type.

I don't personally mind the name, I just don't think it'll sell well with the young male audience, I think Light would work better. Also, I don't understand how people would hear Fairy is immune to Dragon and say "Oh, that makes sense." But that's just me. It seems like they're doing something pretty smart with the type, fucking with the dominance of the dragon type a fair bit.

I just hope they also work with stealth rock somehow. Increase the ease of removal, reduce the damage, or offer alternatives that are actually appealing.

And fairies basically act opposite dragons on a spectrum of "mythological creature." Dragons represent brute force while fairies are more about sneakiness and cunning.

Typing is hardly the most relevant thing when it comes to balance.

Obviously, some types are shittier/better than others. But with different type combos, different move pools, different abilities, and different base-stats, there's a lot more to balance than just typing.

Electric, grass, and poison, I think. It would also take normal damage from steel instead of half, meaning steel would still be reasonably effective for shutting it down.

You could balance it in a number of ways. Make it decently heavy and it gets wrecked by grass knot. Give it shit special attack and it gets walled by tons of steel types. Introduce some stronger poison moves and poison becomes relevant for shutting it down.

fairy represents fairies. Fairy folk include things like leprechauns, jinn, and pretty much anything you'd find in a fairy tale or a narnia book like Pan. Would it include the cutsey fairies as well? Increasing the use of poison whilst increasing the use of steels makes steels doubly useful since they now counter all the new poison type threats. Using poison is now largely redundant given that steels are far more common, so to counter fairies people use steels instead.

However, I'm assuming this is why Fire is also resistant to Fairy. Increased Fire usage should balance out Steel usage, and give Poison a niche to fill.

I think that if done properly poison can still have a place. Some of the type combinations will give fairy somewhat more of a leg up against steel but still be weak to poison.

Steel also still suffers against fire, fighting, and ground, all of which are incredibly common in the metagame. New poison type combinations or capitalizing on the changes to the various types could make them more useful than they would be with the status quo.

You'll have to run the risk of either being wrecked by fire and fighting if you counter with steel or psychic if you counter with poison. Both fear ground.

Since both have their risks, the utility of each type will come down to the new typing combinations offered to various types throughout the game.

If a water/fairy or whatever might have otherwise gone straight to the top of OU or into ubers, a grass/poison type might be the best cockblock.

That's the great thing about making a new type and the fact that type combinations exist. Shit's definitely going to be shaken up, but until we see what specific pokemon are added in terms of their types and stats and such we can't be sure how much each type will be helped or hindered.

Even if they didn't make it available in Gen 6 by TM or move tutor, you'd still have all the pokemon from previous gens being able to spam it.

What we need is a better way to deal with entry hazards. Give magic bounce to more pokemon (preferably ones that aren't frail psychic types). Make more moves similar to rapid spin and give them to a larger array of pokemon. Give a pokemon an automatic rapid spin ability. Shit just needs to be balanced

It would also force people to make a choice as to which one they would use. What kind of pokemon do you want to heavily counter by having a given type entry hazard out to wreck them? Do you merely want consistent damage with a buffed spikes? So on and so forth.

Really there's nothing wrong with making entry hazards themselves an integral part of the metagame. The problem is that the opportunity cost is so low you'd have to be a moron not to use it, and that as a single move it punishes certain types ludicrously with no viable alternatives.

That's my biggest beef with SR. It only takes 1 turn of setup (as opposed to 3 for full spikes), everyone and their dog can learn it, and it hits everything without magic guard for at least some damage.

I'd have absolutely no problem with it if it was more like spikes and only a select few pokemon could use it.

You could buff it to, say, give the 16.66% damage it currently gives on its second layer. Then it might be remotely tempting to use spikes to chip off a chunk of health off of every pokemon on their entire team instead of stealth rock for the variable damage it does.

It would actually discourage stall even further for certain types that currently take very little damage from stealth rock.
