I can't deny the fact that there will be a new type in X/Y, but I hate the name "fairy" keep everything the same about the type but call it "light". I can't take fairy type seriously.

If what pokemon smash says is true about its strengths and weaknesses, I bet it is going to be a light type.

If the pokebeach rumors are true about its strengths and weaknesses, I bet it is going to be a fairy type.

I'm much more inclined to trust smash than pokebeach, so I'm banking on a light type right now. I'm hoping for fairy though, simply on the basis that Ice doesn't need any more weaknesses, which is what smash was suggesting

But that one actually made sense. Dark and Evil are roughly the same concept. One of the definitions of "dark" is: "arising from or showing evil traits or desires," so it's pretty much the same. Light and Fairy are a totally different concept.

I don't like the idea of a new type because there isn't a need for one. With the current types, we have no run into many problems regarding what something is, and the game is fairly balanced, aside from a few types such as poison offensively and ice defensively. A "fairy" or "light" type is totally not needed, and making a new type for the sake of having a new type just doesn't sound good to me. I'll accept it, and I'll probably like lots of Pokemon with the new type, but I just don't see the point.

Sylveon's names. Sylvan can refer to fairies, nymph can refer to fairies, and fee is literally "fairy" in German.

Smash says Sylveon is strong against ice, effected normally by poison, and is not a fighting type. No existing single type meets all of these conditions. Sylveon could be Rock/Grass or some other dual type, but I think that a single new type is more likely.

Pokebeach says Sylveon is a fairy type outright, and gives a totally different set of strengths and weaknesses, like vulnerabilities to poison and steel and immunities to dragon.

As far as I know, only one will be right, but it is extremely likely to be a new type either way.

Pretty much why most don't want it (except for those saying "I don't want fairy type cause it sounds gay." That's a dumb reason). It's just going to be a novelty. It'll pretty much be chatot: the type. But, eh, things'll smooth out and pretty much nothing will change anyway. The top dogs in metagame and competitive play MIGHT shift slightly, but it's not terribly likely. You're just not going to balance a 17-type chart by throwing more types at it.

Using Pokebeach's supposed type matchups, it seems to fit into balance pretty nicely, except that ice should absolutely resist it, for the sake of balance. Ice type fucking sucks defensively, and this type is letting the offensively poor types, steel and poison, get a chance.

Thank fucking God! Poison is one of my favourite types, but it isn't worth shit competitively because it's not effective against enough things, and weak to too many Pokemon because everything can fucking learn Earthquake.. This won't turn the tables too much, but it's at least something.

I just don't see why they would add a new type at all. The only reason they added steel/dark was to add a check to the extremely unbalanced types in gen 1. There is nothing overpowering right now so there is no real need for one. I'm not denying there will be a new type, there probably will, but it doesn't really make any sense why.

And then you could have a gray alien pokemon, a rocketship pokemon, a flying saucer pokemon, a shooting star/meteorite pokemon that could be part rock, an actual sun pokemon that could be part fire, a constellaton pokemon that grows more complex as it evolves, a part dark gravity/black hole pokemon...
