Why was Tepig's line part-fighting? With Torchic and Chimchar it was an easy way to get past the Rock type gym leader but Tepig didn't face that challenge.

I just don't skip non-wild battles and usually my starter is around 15-16 by the time I get to the 1st gym.

It seems natural to be several levels above most gym leaders. Then again my teams become underleveled until I get Exp.Share because I mainly use my starter
