Pokemon holds such a large influence on my childhood. But I adored every second I played Pokemon Red when I was 8. I know I'll feel the same when my White 2 gets here, at my age of 21.

I don't think gen 1 gets as much appreciation as it should on /vp/. While it was filled with glitches and bugs as well as some stupid stuff (lol Blue's Exeggutor), it still had an excellent soundtrack, tonnes of great Pokemon and some decent characters. Considering its main selling point was trading and battling, the game itself was pretty decent.

It's gotten to the point where it appears people try too hard to shit on the first generation to compensate for the genwunners that pollute pretty much everywhere that isn't here.

It's still my favorite and the one I have the fondest memories of, but the other games have improved on some things immensely.

I remember walking through an African themed furniture store when I first found out about Missingno. It was in a dark basement with dim lights and African statues everywhere. Really vivid scene for some reason. Since then I've always thought of Missingno as some kind of African spirit. Probably due to the safari zone pokemon appearing on the coast too.

Also I used to think that viridian forest was a garden center as my mom would often take me with her when she bought plants/ornaments for her garden so i wouldn't be left alone.

I guess these are quite abstract feels but I really enjoyed being in these places while playing pokemon. I used to imagine which pokemon would be native to the area and used to fantasize about the places I visited being gyms such as the buddist temple I once visited.

I also used to be an alter boy and imagined that the priests were the only ones who could have legendary pokemons. I spend half my life in this world and half in my imagination.
