They made Ice types before pokemon was a huge success. There aren't that many things they could do with them to be honest. Not too many ice animals or objects.

My issue with Gen V is that Gamefreak created too many counterparts to older Pokemon. I understand that it was practically a "reboot" of the series (without actually being a reboot), but we really didn't need another Pokemon that imitates a Poke Ball or a floating hunk of metal that evolves into multiple pieces of that same hunk of metal.

Vanilluxe kind of takes a refuge in audacity though. I mean it's so fucking stupid it becomes pretty funny. It's genuinely stupider than a kettle pokemon I designed when I was 11 and you can't help but sort of like it as a result.

The reason I used Klink as an example is because it's just a terrible design and it's not even funny. Makes fucking Voltorb look like the height of originality.

Yeah you're right, the problem was essentially that they looked at some 1st gen pokemon with bad designs and decided to do it again. The result was more shit and more derivative than the originals.

My main issue with the pokemon in gen V was just that there were loads but there were far less pokemon that I actually really liked than previous gens. Vanilluxe is pretty funny but it still sort of looks like a sign that the designers just didn't give a fuck anymore.

Because it's derivative and magnemite had more going about it. I'm not saying magnemite was great (or even good) but at least it wasn't just a gear with a face. It was a ball with an eye, 2 magnets and 3 screws so it gets a few more weird points.

The problem is also that floating metal as pokemon was a weird and somewhat original idea at the start. Trying to once again capture the giddy heights of design that was magnemite is just mental.

The designs in it marked the start of a downward spiral in designs that gamefreak never recovered.

Gen1 - m-muh Rhydon m-muh Seel + near entire generation has been imprinted on the gustos of poke fans everywhere - again, poor justfication on your turn.

Plus, I posted my suggestion because that one character gets ALWAYS being torn to shreds and I wanted the steam to be released prematurely rather than creating a hate bandwagon like the one which went in one of the previous worst pokemon design threads.

my first game was gen 1, but I seriously like a lot of gen 3's pokemon. Aggron, Gardevoir, Flygon, Slaking, and Metagross are among my all time favorites.

although I agree that gen 4 and 5 had a surprisingly large amount of badly designed/goofy Pokes. Yes every gen has them, but they're more prominent in the last two gens.

hopefully gen 6 has less.

I'm glad so far I like every single gen 6 pokemon to be shown except for the new Eevee evolution. If it turns out I can enjoy gen 6, people can stop calling me a gen wunner for saying gen 4 and 5 were shit.

Though gen 5 was still much better than 4, I couldn't even play gen 4 games without importing because I could not even pick 6 pokemon I enjoy. Not even one full party's worth of not shit pokemon.

But as I said though, gen 6 looks great!

but I think gen 5 has most of the smartest, best designs out of any gen. There's only a few that don't continue to impress me, and I like vanilluxe, garbodor, and klink line. (ice cream is great and it has a funny face, fucking fansastic design for a horrid garbage monster, and I think a buncha gears that look like clock innards is cool)
