I honestly think pansage/simisage existed first, then they just lazily copy and pasted him for the other four to make some stupid "secondary grass/fire/water trio fillers." I actually loved the idea of a brocolli monkey, then the other monkeys ruined it for me.

Agreed. AGREED. And the way half the trainers in Unova used them was complete bullshit too, because even if I hid Pansear in the PC and never looked at it again, I was always reminded that those stupid things existed. Simisage looked OK, but that doesn't justify all of them being present and widespread.

I don't mind just having one exist. My gripe is how fucking lazy it was to reuse a sprite three times with slight edits to it and call them three separate Pokemon. I would rather that these went away and we were left with their animal forms.

Humanoid Pokemon are also still really odd to me.

A lot of the Gen V Pokemon were parallels to older Pokemon for one reason or another. Alomomola, Sawk/Throh, the Hurpadurr line, etc.
