Lillipup is more comparable to Spearow than to Growlithe.
And that's also subjective as fuck, because I can argue that Chandelure line is better than Gengar line because it's based off some kind of lore instead of being just a random ghost that is even named literally ghost. Except I love Gastly just as much as Litwick.

It also has triple battles and rotations battles, the world tournament, several new moves, eviolite, and more can be listed if you actually try to remember.
The only thing it removed from previous gens that was relevant to me was walking pokémon, and even that has a reason: BW was already being produced parallel to HGSS and ended up not having the feature inserted. And BW2 just couldn't add it because it would differ too much from the prequel like that.
I'm not sure what other features got removed because whatever it was I didn't personally used them.
