I remember when I perceived Oshawott for the first time as a horrendous and ugly otter, until I watched the anime. I guess the show can have its pros at times.

I honestly think Oshawott is Ash's weakest starter. Its only use has been as battle fodder. LOL. That thing is a shame to Ash's team.

Ash's Johto team was his worst.

They didn't get much development or any battles due Ash's Kanto starters hogging the spotlight.

Oshawott is the best of Ash's Unova team personality-wise, but that's because none of his other team members really have any personality.

Especially Palpitoad. He rarely appears, and he's got the least personality of them all.

Krookodile is super proud of himself, Leavanny has a mother-like personality, Oshawott is Piplup if he were done right, Snivy is smug, and Pignite is Charizard, minus the 3rd degree burns. Palpitoad, Unfeazant and Boldore don't really have a personality, but 5 out of 8 is a great score considering how bad it was before.
