It was already confirmed from the pictures on the official website. This isn't really that surprising.

What I really want to know if this is restricted 8 direction movement or full 360 degrees. I'm leaning toward the former.

Since full 360 would mean less time on tall grass, they would have to raise the random encounter rate. I'd rather stick to 8 directions.

Its 8 directional, you can tell by the fact that the character instantly looks in one direction in some of the vids.

The movement will probably be like how it is in gates to infinity if you've played that.

Not really, actually. I play Phantasy Star Zero on my 3DS, and the circle pad works just fine with the 8 direction DS game. It's not precise, like KH3D or Mario Kart, but I don't see anything disconcerting, if that's what you mean.

Something about the way the camera reacts seems to slow for it to be following set path.

In the end, it doesn't matter much. It just looks like full movement from some of the trailer.

It's like people completely forgot that the directional pad exists. We could use the D-Pad for 8-directional movement and the circle-pad for free movement. They were likely using the D-Pad for the Smash footage because they don't like to reveal the things that we want to be clarified the most.
