So,

Why not create a mini-Earth in America? Bring in people en masse from around the globe here, and into separated states that'd replicate mini countries.

This would be an exciting idea, because it'd feel like you're stepping into countries that'd you'd otherwise have to travel across the planet to see; flying to New Mexico and experiencing a mini, elaborate Mexico would be a richer experience than having a few random Mexican Americans in your neighborhood.

I believe this would create a truly multicultural society, that'd be incredibly more unique than we have today. I think it'd be great to travel to a state and experience a mini Egypt, Mexico, Turkey, Morocco, Brazil, Japan, Spain, Germany, Italy, Russia, Ireland, France, Sweden, Norway, Poland, etc.

Larger states would fit a variety of demographics in them. So, California would have ethnic enclaves from Mexico, Korea, India, Bangladesh, Russia, etc. Same with Texas and what have you. Imagine something like this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinatown,_Manhattan that's spread throughout the state, for example.

There’s a variety of countries that have something similar to what I’m talking about: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belgium
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxembourg

Those countries all function great, and my plan would actually have everybody continue to learn English in school, even.

A challenge would be to keep the people in their own states. So, let's say the German state's economy is terrible, how would we keep the German Americans in their state, instead of moving to the Italian state? There'd be no legal segregation, no forcible removal etc, so there'd need to be some incentive to have the people live in their state. Same hurdle exists for getting people to leave, too. So we'd to give the Somalis living in Minnesota incentive to move to Mississippi, or what have you.
