So Fenniken is based on the Fennec Fox which is found in the Sahara Desert

And in Pokemon world, Sand = Ground

It's a matter of opinion, but those three are pretty kickass Pokemon.

It's actually kind of neat imagining certain species/types of creatures if they lived in different biomes/had unexpected types. Still holding out for FIRE PLANTS

Sand is sort of a solid equivalent of water, at least in fantasy. There's tons of games that use the "Sea of Sand" trope.
It's also nice to have not so many Water types, considering they're the most numerous type.

I never heard anything about this. Unless you're talking about Nile crocodiles, but they don't live in desert - they live in the river, which is in the desert. But that crocodiles don't burrow themselves in the sand like Sandile's line.

Plus you have to remember that oceans cover 70% of earth and there's a lot more aquatic life than terrestrial. If they were to make every aquatic species water type, we'd have way too fucking many waters (even moreso than already)

Maybe that's the theme this year like in gen 4 their secondary types made them strong to each other (Ground > Fire, Fighting > Steel, Water > Ground)

Grass/Rock - Water does normal damage

Also: immunity to burns and Thunder Wave means it can absorb status like a champ.

Still hoping for Fire/Psychic since the only (non-event) Pokemon that has that typing is complete shit, but I honestly wouldn't mind Ground instead.
