I just found an awesome hack via reddit called Eccentric emerald, which is similar to Emerald 386 but lacks the ridiculous level curve and adds the physical special split as well as updating movesets to 5th gen kinda like YAFRH.

I was so excited that the first pokemon who attacked me was a Magmar instead of a Rattata.
Morty has ghost types so I think my best bet is Todd the Togetic and levelling him to about 30, maybe more to be safe.

Jolteon is great if you can get the TM Thunderbolt for it (through the horrid Voltorb Flip game) or if you can get Charge Beam through the Goldenrod raffle.
Sometimes you'll get a free Thunderstone from a trainer on the route to the left of Ecruteak. I did actually after evolving Eevee into Umbreon.
Just stick a Soothe Bell on Eevee and have it with you while grinding (if you need to grind) and take it to the massage brother under Goldenrod every day. Not too hard just always have Soothe Bell.

It's learnset isn't the best sadly in Gen 4 though. I've never trained one either.

I have Confuse Ray and Hidden Power (turned out to be Steel type) on it currently. Sadly you can't get Toxic for ages though. It won't learn too many strong attacks but going to the Headbutt tutor guy helped me give it a decent move for the time being.
Maybe teach it Payback if it has a Speed lowering nature as well. Later you can get Dark Pulse.
