The lacklustre roster and severe dearth of postgame content are probably the biggest marks against it.
The crawling text speed, inability to recruit major legendaries (gameplay limitations notwithstanding), inability to complete more than one job at a time and segregation of regular dungeon-crawling from quest runs are also significant (but not, for me, deal-breaking) problems.
Some less stiff/jerky/generic animations would have nice as well.
Overall; as much as it did right (the town's inhabitants almost always having new things to say; the story in general being fairly okay for the most part; actually giving the player character a voice now and then) it did a lot of things wrong. Here's hoping they fix things in the next one. Hell, here's hoping there'll BE a next one.
