Clock based events won't occur.
You can send it to Nintendo or just ignore it. Your pokemon will be fine.

No, migrating is ok. In fact, you can still play it. You only won't have an inner clock, so no berry growing or time based events.

Some brave souls open the cart and change the battery. There are tutorials around if you wanna try.

berry glitch has the same end effect as the battery running dry, but it is not the same thing.

Berry glitch can be fixed with the stealth patch when connecting to other games. Only way to fix a dead battery is to replace the battery.

I don't believe so. After all, your save file doesn't go away when it announces that the battery died, right? I think the battery is only there for the internal clock.

The file is wiped when you do it in Gold and Silver. Don't know about Emerald.

GB(C) carts require a battery to keep save data alive. GBA carts mostly save to flash memory.
