Plan A) Keep the current, or whatever the fuck the electronics term was, going while changing a new battery in.
Like... Take some small pieces of wire and a battery, stick the wires so the cart keeps getting power even when you remove the original battery, take another new battery and stick that shit in the cart, when it is installed remove the other battery and the wires.
Note that the battery needed to be connected in just the right way, "series" or something was the electronics term... Anyways you better check that. There are 2 ways to connect batteries to each other, the other one keeps the voltage steady and you want that. The other one adds the voltage together.

Plan B) Stick the cart in Gameboy, keep that shit on and game going, open the cart, switch the battery, save the game. Needless to say don't fucking turn that shit off before saving. Your game is stored in the gameboy's RAM(or whatever the fuck) during the battery change with this method.
