Nice strawman, but the difference between Torkoal and the Eeveelutions is that the latter actually do follow a pattern. Each one is named after the type it represents in some way (eg. Flareon -> Flare -> Fire, Vaporeon -> Vapor -> Water, etc.) - assuming that Sylveon follows the same trend and recognizing that all of its names are Fairy-based is not that big of a leap to make.

It's especially telling when you get to the German names, which are pretty much Fireon, Watereon, etc. when you translate them literally.

Sylveon is not Normal, Water, Electric, Fire, Psychic, Dark, Grass, Ice, or Fighting, and it's weak to Poison, which means it can't be any of the other existing types. Anyone disputing these facts is in denial.

Grass would indicate the Sylvan name, and the poison weakness. Ice is weak to countless types, so it could be a number of possibilities.
Not to mention, as well as a good Grass type, we need a good Fire type int he Eeveelution line. So there's that.
Making it dual typed would make far more sense than completely redoing the type chart. Less time, less work, more time to focus on all the rest of what the game needs.

A fairy is actually a spirit. A ghost is also spirit. As are other mythical creatures.

If people are convinced enough for a fairy type to exist then there is just as much reason to think the new type could be a spirit or magic type, as nymphs are magical spirits. Personally I think there will be a new type, but the name is still debatable.
