sup /vp/, havent played pokemon in over 3 years now, wanna get back into it and play either black or white (not part 2 yet). Which one should i get? Also, best starter?

also, Oshawott is the best starter, but all three starters are pretty bad. Instead of Snivy you can get a Lilligant and instead of Tepig you can get a Darumaka. Both better and both before the 3rd gym.

Thanks, I was considering black cause I could catch houndour in it and I heard black/white has shitty fire types (even the fire starter)

You won't be able to get Houndour until Black 2, or, if I'm recalling correctly, Black 1's post-Elite Four. Up until then, you can only access gen 5 Pokemon.

Oshawott is the best starter, but that still isn't saying much. There are a lack of good water types available for a while, but you can get ducklett right before the 5th gym. Ducklett and Swanna are fairly good, and the water/flying typing is nice. Consider holding a ground type tho.

Tepig is the most reliable of the starters. It becomes dual type upon evolution and can learn many useful varied type moves unlike the other two starters.

But seriously, though, it's true that all starters are outclassed. Tepig by Darumaka, Snivy by Petilil and Oshawott by pretty much any Water type that isn't Basculin, although Basculin is also pretty good. I still keep Emboar 'cause he's a bro.

op here, I'm usually partial to choosing a fire starter, but really, another fuckin fire/fighting type? Jesus game freak...is it even as good as blaziken?

You're like three years late to the whole Fire/Fighting thing, OP. Either way, Emboar is more of a bulky strong (though he isn't that bulky, but definitely more than Blaziken/Infernape). He also learns a signature move that deals more damage the heavier it is compared to its foe.

Eh... Its more Infernape>Blaziken=Emboar.

Blaziken is only slightly more faster than Emboar, which can be mitigated with flame charge. Emboar also has considerably more bulk than Blaziken. Emboar also learns hard hitting moves earlier (Flame charge, arm thrust, take down). Blaziken is pretty much stuck with peck, ember, and double kick until it evolves.

At least Blaziken can reliably KO stuff without it being a hassle. I used Emboar and its low speed + low defenses made it die too often.

ok so basically the consensus is get pokemon white, but generally gen 5's starters suck amirite? So whats the final word: tepig or oshawatt?

Remember that if you do get Black or White 2. You can sync your save file to part one for bonuses. Real copy only though.
