I thought every game was about a 10 year old kid who left home from a single parent after receiving a pokemon from a professor, then collecting 8 gym badges while thwarting a team of criminals wearing spandex before defeating the Elite Four and becoming a Pokemon Champion.
Honestly, pokemon games have shit stories overall. They are boring, predictable, repetitive. Nintendo does this thing where their games have Protagonists who are "voiceless" because you are supposed to impart your personality on to them, but no nintendo game lets you actually make choices.
The stories of pokemon games also focus too heavily on pokemon themselves, we don't have equivilents in our world as a Dog fight cannot destroy a city block and/or our nuclear arms dont have a personality. Its un-relatable as a setting. Good escapism makes you believe you can escape to there by focused on things we can relate to.
>Game of Thrones is full of fantasy and magic and shit, but is focused on political drama.Similar things could be done with Pokemon, preferably not political drama. How about a Pokemon game where the central story is about frontier life in the old west? steam punk pokeballs. Bandits with pokemon.
Pokemon Conquest was really cool in that regard. There were pokemon, but they weren't the spotlight of the story. Arceus was part of Nobunaga's endgame it seemed, but it was mostly about a Japanese Warlord who was trying to ruthlessly take over the world. Pokemon were more of a tool for doing fantastical things.
