Guys, im reading some guides, and they recommend a magnezone to trap steel types your opponent is using, together with secret power. Theres a guy in platinum that tells you the type of secret power your pokemon would have if he learned secret power, and im somewhat confused because the guides recommend different secret powers. Some say fire, some say ice, and one said grass. Fire is strong against grass, ice, bug, and steel, so it makes sense since the idea is to use magnezone to kill/trap steel types like scizor Grass is strong against water, ground, rock and ghost so I dont see why it is recommended for a "steel killer" other than it is strong against rock and ground, which would give my electric attacks trouble. Ice is strong against grass, ground, flying and dragon. I assume its there to help against grass and ground, same as grass would be there to help against rock and ground. And personally, I wonder, why not fighting? Fighting is strong against normal, ice, rock, dark and steel, and I see lots of people using rock, dark and steel these days. I went to ironworks and burnt about 50 pokeballs to catch enough magnemite to say I could sell them by the dozen, so I´m just trying to decide on which type of secret power magnemite to keep (and train into magnezone). And yes, I know I should try to get one with an adamant personality, but looking for two random attributes (adamant personality and secret power (ice/grass/fire/figthing) would be quite the task. Which type of secret power should I go with?

>>12407316 Oh, sorry, I was thinking of vespiqueen still since I spent some time lastnight trying to breed an adamant one.
Anyway, whats the problem with secret power? Magnezone does electric damage. Giving it figthing would help him with other steel types after it trapped them, would help a lot with rock/ground types, and may god have pity on the soul of any poor steelix that comes his way. On the other side, secret power ice would cover its ground/grass weaknesses nicely. So basically Im trying to decide between fire, ice, grass or figthing. Suggestions?

Why not water to deal with fire and ground types quickly, and do neutral damage to most other stuff, some of which is zappable with your good old electric attacks?

>>12407380 It's Hidden Power. Secret Power is determined on the surrounding area.

First you should probably tell us what other moves you plan to have on it, and then you'll know what type it'll be. Hidden Power is a filler move in case you can't find anything else.

Are you trying to ruse, OP?

>>12407415 Oooh you are right, i mean HIDDEN power. Hidden, secret, its not that big a mistake to make.
Anyway, Im trying to decide between hidden power grass, ice, fire or figthing. What would be better?

>>12407445 Thunder
Thunderbolt
Explosion or Flash Cannon (not sure which one yet)
Like I said, I want to use magnezone to kill the so goddamn popular scizor, so was thinking fire or figthing. Since he wouldnt be able to run away, may just go with zapping it to death and use hidden power (ice) to deal with ground types.

HIDDEN POWER FIRE WILL GENERALLY SLAUGHTER MOST STEEL-TYPES, BAR HEATRAN, WHO WILL SAVAGELY MURDER YOU UNLESS YOU SWITCH IMMEDIATELY USUALLY, IT'S YOUR BEST OPTION HIDDEN POWER GROUND CAN BE USED TO KILL HEATRAN, SOME STEEL-TYPES, OPPOSING ELECTRIC-TYPES, AND OPPOSING MAGNEZONES OF COURSE, IF YOU PICK HIDDEN POWER GROUND, YOU'LL HAVE TO RELY MORE ON YOUR THUNDERBOLT/THUNDER TO KILL OFF BUG/STEEL TYPES AND THE LIKE WHICH HIDDEN POWER YOU CHOOSE WILL DEPEND ENTIRELY ON WHAT THREATS YOU NEED TO COVER IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A FIRM COUNTER FOR HEATRAN, AND STRUGGLE WITH STEEL-TYPES, GET HIDDEN POWER FIRE IF YOU MERELY WANT A BULKY ELECTRIC TANK THAT CAN TAKE A HIT AND FIRE BACK, USE HIDDEN POWER GROUND HIDDEN POWER ICE IS GOOD FOR HITTING GRASS-TYPES, WHO WOULD WALL MAGNEZONE OTHERWISE, AND KILLING GROUND-TYPES, MAGNEZONE'S WORST NIGHTMARE

>>12407534 I'd say fire, it kills Scizor/Forretress/Ferrothorn quickly. Remember that Scizor can U-Turn out or wreck you with Superpower and the other two can set up hazards, Forry also has Volt Switch. Thunderbolt hits most other things harder than a super effective Hidden Power.

An aerodactyl as first pokemon out to lay out some come-into-play hurt and keep the opponent from doing the same would help to suddenly make vespiqueen viable. I hope anyway

WHAT DO YOU WANT YOUR MAGNEZONE TO DO?

After checking, I found both my "would have hidden power (fire)" magnezones, are quiet and brave, respectively. Brave +attack -speed Quiet +special attack -speed Is the loss of speed such a big issue if they cant escape anyway? was thinking in using the Quiet nature one to get boosted special attack. I mean, yes, it would be IDEAL to get a Modest (+spec attack / -attack) one or a Mild (+spec attack / -modest) one, but wouldnt the scarf and vitamins (carbos?) help with the loss of speed?
