I never got that theory. Aerodactyl clearly has three fingers on the top of the wing, whereas Zubat has them spread throughout the wing.

Something entirely different in Pokemon.
Even so, Pterodactyls are bird-like, while Bat are mammals.
The bat wings one Aerodactyl are just to make it reminiscent of a European dragon, along with its tail.
