The legends have been treated like this before, too, but I could not find a commonality between the circumstances the types of the legends were revealed, or at least I don't think I did. I'll have to check again.

Not OP, but I really don't get this logic as an argument against a different name.
The basic, colloquial connotation of a fairy brings to mind a pixie or sprite like Tinkerbell, not the other, evil mythological creatures that fall under the "fairy" heading.
Keep in mind, I'm a fairyfag, but at least come up with a better reason why Fairy couldn't be localized as Light.

Not sure if the idea has been thrown around before, but what about an Arcane type? It wouldn't be as vague as magic or light, but it wouldn't have the girly implications that fairy has. With Arcane as a type you could have attacks such as Magic Missile and other classics. Just a thought though.

Fairy myths are so vague in origin and erratically different from place to place, ask one person and they'll say fairy pokemon should be ghost, ask others and they'll say dark, others still would propose primordial elements for the typing(fire/water/etc.) That, in my opinion, is why I find the mythology argument retarded. Love type would be pretty cool. I'd see it being the rival to Poison, both being a type that people don't care about, but they're fun to use.

SE Against: Dark, Psychic(Love blinds the mind), Fighting(love not war), Ice(Melts their hearts!)
Not Very Effective Against: Grass(plants can't feel the love), Rock(rocks in love? Nope), Steel(same reasoning),
Takes SE Damage From: Fighting(Love-types are pussies), Dark(same reason), Poison(same reasoning), Love(love overload.)
Ineffective Against: Normal(Normal types are too stupid to feel the love.)

Beefs up Normal. Sadly, it weakens Ice, making it a useless type. Besides that, get some good type coverage.

Dragon was not OP in gen 3.
All dragons moves were special and worked of the weaker special attack of dragons. Outrage had only 90 base power. Special walls l ike Blissey, Milotic and Snorlax could handle the Dragons easily. The only Dragon that was OP was Rayquaza and he was in Ubers.
Gen IV was when they became OP, Gen V made them even more OP by giving them more powerful abilities.

Reasons people actually think it will be Fairy:

Sylveon, Ninfia and Feelinara all are references to fairies, with Fee literally meaning Fairy in German, and some the other German eeveelotions use the literal type in their name, while the english one just allude to it.

Hiro said it would be fairy as would Xerneas (not a girly looking pokemon, so at least going by this information it is more mythical than girly). But Hiro has not proven to be correct about Gen VI yes, he only has a record for accurately releaving information on Gen V.

MPWs leak said it would be Fairy, and some of the information was already partially confirmed (english names a day before their official release and an electric draining attack a month before Corocoro revealed it).

Without these people would just say it was a new type instead of Fairy specifically, but because of these things pointing to Fairy people who think it will be a new type are assuming it will be called Fairy.

Not really. When I saw a European dragon I thought it was a dinosaur of some kind since I was used to dragons being snake-like in appearance. And the fact that they breathed fire baffled me since where I come from dragons spit acid, not fire.

Light would focus more on LIGHT based attacks

Think about it. Prior to Gen IV, types were categorized either Physically or Specially. However, there was one less Special type than Physical. I know it's pointless now. But the idea of it remains. One more "Special" type would balance it out.

Faerie brings to mind Irish/Scottish mythology, where Faerie means both magical creatures and the world they live in. Faerie includes winged people, goblins, leprechauns, changelings, ghosts, kelpies, selkies, etc.

They both sing, grant wishes, play tricks, and help people, but with Faeries, you might disappear for 7 years, be sucked into another world to be replaced by a changeling, or just fucking die.
