Love me some Gen III, but I do think they had the worst starters. Don't like a single one of them, except Swampert, maybe, but I don't want to truck his first two stages around the whole game just for that.

I also love the Pokemon variety. I have so many favorites from Gen III, I can play through it several times without using the same team. Except Kecleon. Kecleon is always on my team. I adore this gimmicky motherfucker.

Last run I used Azumarill and Hariyama, named them Hulk Hogan and Macho Man respectively, and they kicked ass in every double battle we came across. Loved it.

My only real gripes are
1) Yeah, too much water.
2) I don't know why but I just really hate Electrike and Manectric. The game didn't have enough Electric variety, I think.
3) Diving was cool as fuck, I wish they used it a bit more.

It used to be Gen 3 (4 playthroughs plus one unfinished) but I'm bored of it now.
Honestly none of them.
Sinnoh is pretty great, but I'm not sure I'd want to play through it again.

Never really played past Gen III, except on emulators but something was missing from the emulators. I grew up with Gen I, and loved it to death, but Crystal is probably my favorite version. however some features of Gen III are quite enjoyable. But gen II wins in my heart.

The problem is that you have to sit through fifteen seconds of text and flashing lights just to click "run away".

All games with random encounters need to have a travel mode that automatically makes a "run away" roll whenever a battle would come up, and either gives the enemy a free turn or doesn't even let the battle screen come up in the first place depending on the result.

I don't cry when I stop to think that I could've caught shinies when repelling. However, the two times I have encountered shinies without catching them, I have cried. I never cry.

The whole point is that if the pre-roll succeeds, the battle screen never comes up, so you wouldn't even know that you'd missed it.

Hell, if you like, let people filter what kind of encounters they do or don't want to pre-escape from. I'm all for spending less time waiting for animations to finish before I'm allowed to press the "I don't even want to be on this screen" button.

Not as good as always having your party viewable like in HGSS, but still better than BW's complete lack of any sort of equivalent

Only real flaw was the deliberately-shitty monochrome pixelated aesthetic. But yeah, so much better than BW's "let's clog up your bottom screen with this useless C-gear stuff that you turned off before you started the game anyway" bullshit.

And I just wanted to emphasize how pissed I am about the lack of toggle run.

As for follower pokemon, it's just cool having your buddy follow you around like that.

Assuming that you're only doing one at a time, the easy way is just to keep track of how many times you need more than one shot to make a kill, then work it out from your PP used at the end.

So like repels, only more annoying? The whole point of Pokemon is that you can't always run away. Plus, repels are fairly cheap: running out of them usually indicated that either you don't battle trainers, are too lazy to buy lots of repels, or buy 99 revives at a time.

If you can't run away, then the Run roll would fail, and you would have to battle it, with it having a free turn at the start, to boot. The only difference would be that you didn't just waste fifteen seconds waiting for the animations to go away. A game should be balanced around challenge, not around tedium.

I've done about 6 ruby/emerald playthroughs. 2 cause I bought the games to play them (duh), a ruby because i wanted to try the other starter, an emerald because my friend gave me his and why the fuck not, and 2 emeralds because i was in the mood for a new playthrough and they were within reach.

1 full leafgreen playthrough, started my second yesterday. It was sad deleting it because that was my first save file on my first video game ever (only 18).

1 full diamond playthrough. Started a pearl yesterday because it's another game my friend gave me and I hadn't done Sinnoh for like 3 years and kinda forgot it. Currently having shitloads of fun.

Also have a black playthrough going for which my motivation is continually draining. I said I would hate gen5 for months until I actually played it. I don't hate it, but I'm glad I'm playing a rom and didn't spend money on it. Only worth $15 in my opinion.

1 soulsilver playthrough. That's my baby. Still working on filling my pokedex and I'm never deleting that file. Got a legit shiny lugia on it an like 5 different full level 100 teams for various purposes.

Overall, while I've done the most playthroughs in ruby and emerald, that was just because of my 2 rubies, 2 emeralds, and their availability. Soulsilver is my favorite game, but Sinnoh is turning out to be my favorite game to do multiple playthroughs of. I feel like another HG/SS playthrough would be overwhelming because there's so much to do in those.
