How come people seem to use pokemon in strictly support or offensive ways? I rarely see the two mixed.

For instance I use alakazam, sash zam to be precise. Now this naturally draws in scarfed pokemon and just naturally fast pokemon. Which makes thunder wave a nasty surprise for them as I steamroll the rest of their team with band krookodile.
