I don't want a robot praying mantis, I want Pinsir to get the Metal Coat evo, since it's based on the Lucanidae whose characteriscs are the big stag appendices and a hard exoskeleton, which could've worked well with a "metal" coating.
A praying mantis isn't as sturdy, however, it's rather frail and doesn't go well with the metal theme.
But Game Freak was still inexperienced back then. Or they made this fanservice design on purpose, I can imagine.
And I'm not a retard, bugs don't have pincers. If you thought of scorpions, you are sorely mislead. The closest bugs get to pincers are the tail appendices of the Dermoptera.
