In another thread, a person suggested making an anti-metagame team. So let's get it done.

I suggested starting with an anti-rain Pokemon, who rain teams cannot usually do anything against:

Toxicroak (F) @ Air Balloon
Trait: Dry Skin
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- Ice Punch
- Sucker Punch

Feel free to suggest changes to this ^^, or a new Pokemon altogether.

Why? We are making a team that will counter all the most common playstyles, and rain is probably the most important of these. Toxicroak does just that, and isn't useless against other teams since he still can tank water moves and use priority.

I like Toxicroak and Jolteon the most, due to handling Rain, the playstyle that is most spammed by smogon's "good players". Though I prefer Charge Beam Jolteon, because he can actually sweep.

This was exactly what I was going for when I suggested this idea in the other thread (as referenced in OP). Just countering team isn't what we're going for here, and it's not enough. We're looking at creating a team that should be successful against most common playstyles.

I'm all for toxicroak though. Sun teams really are the only ones against which he won't wreck. By virtue of being a fighting type, he's great to have against hail, he destroys 80% of rain teams single-handedly, puts us in an advantageous lead against common lead tyranitars (Sand is the most popular playstyle iirc guys), and also has the added benefit of being able to take on Scarf terrakion stuck into anything except EQ. Plus, priority is always nice, and at +2, toxicroak hits pretty hard.

Also comes with lolweaknesses and hail damage on your own non-ice types. It requires quite a bit of support which means we might not be able to check as many prominent threats, and overall seems to perform quite inconsistently. I may be wrong here, there MAY just be a very good consistent hail team that could be built, but I still think we're better off making a non-hail team.

I tried using a Hail Team, and it was horrible.
I might've been doing it wrong, but majority of my team easily got damaged by rocks. Not to mention if you're running stall, it would be hard to win a weather war.

You lead with whatever gives you most advantage of course. If our team ends up being weatherless, toxicroak will be a good lead against rain, sand, and even hail teams, since those fucktards always lead with their weather setter.

Zoroark worked pretty well for me.

Toxicroak is a little too frail and slow to make good use of life orb. While his defenses might not be phenomenal, he needs to be on good health to serve as somewhat of a check to scarf terrakion. Black Sludge would probably be our other option to air balloon imo. Black Sludge + Rain Dish (if the opponent brings politoed) results in lulzy amounts of healing every turn (Thus allowing him to recover from unboosted breloom mach punches better too), and offsets dry skin hurt in case opponent brings a sun team.

Mamoswine is pretty tanky and hits hard, priority stab ice shard makes it a pretty good revenge killer too and with enough prediction you can kill stuff with earthquake on switches.

He's great for trolling heatrans, (++++points for trolling gliscors till they ragequit), can also troll gastrodons and vaporeons, can stay status free by switching into things like starmie and celebi, and can generally be very troublesome, and very bulky. It gets great boltbeam coverage too, along with the very good reliable recovery in... well... recover. Switching into Dragonite results in massive annoyance for the opponent too.
Being able to take on Heatran will really help in our issues against sun teams too.

Now that's a good suggestion. It outspeeds and murders Heatran, and destroys sun's sweepers and faster Dragons with Ice Shard. It also blocks Thunders/Volt Switches from the rain teams (as if Toxicroak didn't crap on them enough already). Swine has my vote.

If we're going with that set, and hence not using endeavor, is Focus Sash all that necessary? As you said, Mamo is pretty tanky, and if we're using him mainly to revenge kill some pesky fuckers like dnite, mence, and gliscor, (and set up rocks), couldn't another item maybe be more beneficial? I know focus sash will almost always guarantee the hazards up, I'm just thinking aloud here.

Well the thing is. There is a whole lot of possible, viable, stealth rock setters. We're only throwing around ideas for now. Hell, even once we're done deciding the 6 pokemon, we'll be editing the movesets and things, and so it probably won't be hard to stick stealth rock on someone who can set it up reliably. Mamo is a pretty good stealth rocker. Generally, he can set up rocks early and get out, and can get back later in the game just to revenge kill/clean up.

Considering scizor gets so much usage how about a magnet pull magnezone with HP fire. Pretty good mon also has access to volt switch to keep momentum.
Heatran which is its biggest threat is walled by porygon2 as well.

well, Modest 252 sp.atk +2 venusaur's solarbeam does 78% max to a bulky P2 (uninvested in sp.def, neutral nature) So maybe all that sp.def investment isn't necessary, and some EV's could instead be put towards def., or sp.atk?

100 sp atk EV's for example, guarantee the OHKO on bulky gyarados after rocks (with discharge), and also almost guarantees the 2hko on neutral latios with ice beam. (only miss out if you get 2 terrible min rolls).
But then again, 100 EV's might be too much diverted away from the defenses, so it's something to consider

I just realized how little does Ice Beam do to Venusaur without any special attack EVs (barely 50%), and it would require too much EVs to do something meaningful - so I support Thunder Wave instead of Toxic, then Thunderbolt can go over Discharge.

The SDef evs can go to Def, so it could be 160 Def, 96 SDef instead.

This motherfucker has better things to do. Gravity (Thunder/Blizzard uf the case), Substitute, Charge Beam...

Or my favorite: Psych Up.
It's damn funny to see that most ppl bring their bulky sweepers into P2 and try to use it as setup fodder.
A friend of mine used it in UU, the opponent had a Cosmic Power Sigilyph. P2 traces Magic Guard and psychs up +4 on both defenses.
Add in Eviolite/Recover, and not even crits can take the motherfucker

Psych Up is interesting, through all my time trolling people with P2, I haven't used that. However, it is important to note, that most boosting moves used in OU are generally on the physical side - SD, DD, etc. But using Psych Up would allow it wreck teams that have volcarona or CM latias(as long as it's not carrying psyshock of course). Still, maybe a little too situational in OU.

Yeah tell you what. The main point of toxic really is to nail Jellicent (who, also, P2 trolls the shit out of). But charge beam would work just fine there. With enough boosts, he also becomes a huge threat, considering his bulk, to the opponent's team.

Hmm. The thing is though, that we aren't just making a team. We're trying to make a very anti-metagame team. A team that can check basically every threat. The thing with Magnezone is, considering how it's outsped by Heatran, and can be caught by CB Scizor's Superpower, it often fails to do it's job correctly. It also struggles against many of the threats around.
I mean, just look at April's top 25 usage stats, everything except Skarmory, Forretress, Ferrothorn, and Jirachi outspeeds and straight up OHKO's, or at least, puts a huge dent in, Magnezone. And even jirachi, if inside rain, can use Magnezone as set up fodder with it's Calm Minds and things.

Well I only suggested it because we already have Thunder Wave support, so most of those Pokemon that would OHKO him, will now be OHKOed instead (or will be substitute fodder). What steel type do you think is better? Or maybe no steel type at all?

I nominate Empoleon for our sneaky pebbles user/ steel type. He's pretty reliable, can bulk hits from a lot of the metagame (namely everything in scizors arsenal bar a superpower, and even those he can take with proper investment).

Scald is great for getting burns and would only be powered up by rain, etc. He also doesn't fear most of the common jirachis that dont run Thunder, just to name some stuff off of the top of my head.

Dragonspam is still common and Zone takes advantage of it, by setting up on all these Outrages flying around. If we want to pick a Dragon later, he would work very well with it, by handling all the defensive steel types eager to wall the dragon, and even setting up on them. Heatran is walled by Porygon2, while Lucario could be handled by Intimidate Salamence (if that was the dragon we picked).

Hitmonlee is pretty interesting, and on paper seems very destructive. Leichi Berry + Endure does seem like a good way to wreck and clean up late game, but Hitmonlee is still always going to struggle against priority.

that hasn't been a viable strategy in a long time, especially in OU. Between all the priority moves and sandstorm, it will never work.

I used to use endure+reversal all the time in RSE UU teams back in the day. good times.
