It was never found out, he wasn't ill, didn't take drugs, never drank alcohol (religious reasons) and there were no signs of any organ problems in the autopsy, he just went to sleep and never got up. Not a bad way to go if you've got to go I suppose, no suffering or knowledge of impending doom.

Worst thing about it was how I found out... I phoned him up to ask him for tips for a PS1 game and his aunt answered the phone. Which was odd as he lived with his brother. Everything went quiet and I heard sobbing and then his cousin took the phone and he told me what had happened. A few days later another friend of ours who was working at the hospital labs and had to actually do some of the tests told me about the autopsy being inconclusive.

Not a good thing to go through and I honestly don't know where I'd have been without pokemon and the good memories of him it brought out every time I played it. I've told the story about why I complete the pokedex in every game on here before a few times but never really gone into this much detail before and it feels good to get a lot of the stuff off my chest even though it happened over 12 years ago now. So thanks /vp/.
