I agree with the fact that the quality of the backgrounds and whatnot were shit, but I like it when something has a somwhat decent story. It's just like pokemon, if people judged the games on their quality, nobody would care about gen 1 pokemon because they still have the same, unedited cries from the first games.

What? I'm just saying that neither I nor anyone I know had heard of Dr. Who before six months ago. Until recently, I thought it was a new show. I can't speak for other countries, but America seemed pretty much unaware of it's existence until just a few months ago. I've met a few British people online who were astounded by that, they thought Dr Who was known worldwide.

That has bugged me since Platinum. In W/B, it got evene worse for me, because the cries of the new pokemon were just amazing, but the I got a pikachu, and it sounded bland in comparison.

Start from the first episode of the new series (2005).

The old stuff is good too, it just takes a lot longer to go through that and the new show makes the formula a bit more accessible and understandable.

Once you do get to the new series, you can pretty much skip the first two or three Doctors. It's around the Fourth Doctor where the series really has its footing and is established as a sci-fi series. Fifth Doctor is usually about the same in terms of quality, Sixth has some good stories but The Doctor himself goes through some stupid changes, and Seventh Doctor closes up the classic series nicely.

The 1996 movie is more or less a piece of curiosity, but unless you want to read a bunch of books and listen to a bunch of audio dramas, this is the only place you'll find the Eighth Doctor. Damn shame too, Paul McGann really sold the character.

There. Now go and enjoy yourself some time Doctor Who.

The Seventh Doctor was the Doctor when the Last Great Time War began (Remembrance of The Daleks, Skaro being destroyed is the first act of it), and Paul McGann's Doctor, despite being short, is a really great Doctor.

But yeah, old Who is better if you enjoy stories instead of random episodes that build up a short story line. Not ragging on new Who, but they really just go to certain places to help certain people, or make certain events happen.

Well I'll be damned.

DW is probably my favorite show and I watch it for the fucking adventure. Specials effects are average most of the time, it's a question of money, they keep it for the big episodes.
