Should we just resign ourselves that remakes of Gen 3 or anything related to Hoenn is just not going to happen?
Considering GF have kind of murdered it twice now, what with BW2 and the release of X/Y.

Or is a Gen 3 remake going to be the last gasp; the last drop of juice they hope to squeeze from the proverbial lemon of a franchise?

The only real surprise was when B2/W2 was announced instead of Hoenn. No-one with a brain thought that they were going to release Hoenn remakes when they revealed X/Y.

Although things like Hoenn remakes are always going to be an option for Game Freak so you can never really confidently dismiss the idea.

I'm sure the only reason they did Gen 1&2 remakes is because you can't get your Pokemon from the originals of those generations to the present day. You can transfer from Gen 3, so there'd be no point.

We got RBY remakes on the GBA
We got GSC remakes on the DS
We'll get RSE remakes on the 3DS

The DS already had two pokemon gens and the GSC remakes. They didn't want to put another set of remakes on there, especially with the 3DS being launched.

And it makes sense for the first Pokemon games on a new handheld to be a brand new gen rather than a remake.

I would bet money that by this time next year, we will be getting hyped for the RSE remakes.

Weren't FR/LG and HG/SS largely made because you couldn't trade gen 1/2 pokemon into GBA games?

Since you can trade freely from RSE all the way up to BW2 the only other reason for Gamefreak to remake them is mountains of nostalgia dollars.

I mean seriously, vast fucking swathes of money, since emerald was the best selling game on the GBA.

Well, we don't know how compatible X/Y will be with previous generations.

Obviously, I can see it being compatible with Gen 4 and 5 since they were on the DS.

But the 3DS doesn't have a GBA slot. How would you get Gen 3 stuff to XY?

And looking at it purely from a business stand point, remakes are easy money. You think execs give two fucks about some kid not being able to get a Rayquaza on XY?

Did people who think this even play the games?

Only the last 2 gyms and the way to Victory Road are accessed by water routes. Thats like maybe the FINAL 20% of the game, after which you can just fly errywer like you do errywer else in erry game.

Sorta forgot you needed the slot to trade up from gen 3.
How many pokemon does that actually cover though? You can get the weather trio and Lati@s legit in HG/SS, and Deoxys is on event, wasn't Jirachi on a while back?

Doesn't the dream world make all of those available anyway?

Mainly yeah. With the new game being on 3DS and 3DS supporting DS games only, the GBA titles will need to be replaced.

Emerald 3D with access to all Gen 1 pokemon not obtainable in HG/SS. They can't rely on people transferring via a DS lite and then onto a 3DS game.

This isn't a problem really. If you need to trade from Gen3 up until Gen 6, you need to use Pal Park, after which your pokemon are now on a platform which can be freely traded back and forth between Gens 4 through 6.

And honestly, whoever hasn't done this already is seriously late. Sure you gotta jump through a few hopps, but that's just the way the cookie crumbles.

Fair point.

The truth is, I like arguing against remakes of RSE because you guys always remind me that there really isn't much reason why they shouldn't exist.
GF will roll in the cash and that's almost certainly a good enough reason for them. Maybe they only held off on making them during gen 5 because the 3DS was looming over them and they'd rather use that as a platform.
