As someone who hasn't played a single pokemon game since generation 1 and 2, but was a huge fan back then, would I enjoy the new games?

I was always put off by some of the new design, some of the new pokemon always looked like mechas to me, while the ones in generation 2 and 1 especially looked more like monsters and animals (except porygon ofc), pic related.
