Why do pokemon only say their names ? i dont think it was ever explained to me

i only watched pokemon as a kid, and played red and blue, so if it was explained past that time, i missed the memo

It's just a little thing, don't worry about it.

In games, they can make other noises like "Kwaaaaa", etc.

If Pokemon were named after their cries why do their naturally-developed cries conform to the etymology and wordplay of the given language to which the version you're playing is localized?

Maybe people created an appropriate pun in their language that sounded similar to the cries of their local Pokemon to use for its name.

Actually, no. Some mons in the game also say their name. It's not consistent, though, since others show their cry.
