Hey
I am looking to buy a ds for the sole purpose of playing pokemon.
I have been thinking which model should I get, DS Lite or 3DS (or DSi, although I am not considering it for some reason)
So which one would you recommend? What are the main differences between lite and 3ds?

also, will pokemon xy be playable on ds lite?

Get a 3DS for X or Y. It plays DS games, and has some great games of its own, such as Fire Emblem Awakening and Kid Icarus: Uprising. It also isn't ridiculously priced like it was at launch. When I bought it anyway

For the 4th and 5th gen games DS lite is best for several reasons.

XY is 3ds only, of course.

Poor, uneducated anon. 3DS is the generation up from DS/DS lite/DSi, just like the DS is an upgrade from the GBA/GBA SP. Get a 3DS, especially because X and Y will come out for it later this year.

As for the differences... The 3DS is kinda like the jump from N64 to GC. In essence, they're close enough, but the 3DS has much more powerful hardware and tons of little extra things. The only thing worth mentioning is that you can use a flash cart on the DS Lite to make it do everything from playing NES games to making phone calls, but the 3DS is pretty close to being hacked anyways.

Nope. They've made sure it can't be hacked that way. There's currently no way to play games on a 3DS other than official ones.

I would count those under official games.

But probably is best to mention that you CAN get them. Also, if you enter the codes you get for the console and games to the Nintendo site, you can get free games on occasion (even though they're EXTREMELY biased towards the wii...)

Yea, but I wouldn't suggest getting a DS just to softmod it right now. They'll be hacking the 3DS in a year or so, most likely. Just hold out for that and you can get XY and other good games in the meantime.

If you don't care about the color of the 3ds and want it new then Pink 3ds XL in Walmart is for $180 in a small bundle. They used to have that in the bigger bundle but I guess they raised the price now. I got the big bundle with the pink bundle. So double bundle with free case, styluses and two games. I looked everywhere and the only place that has them that low in my area was them. You can then get a customized cover or any other cover if you hate the pink. Hope it helps.
