>>12501231Oh, adding to this, it's better at playing original DS games, because the original 3DS scales them down and then adds a filter that makes them look really blurry and awful, especially for sprite-based games. Pokemon White looks better on my DS than my 3DS.
But there's this thing you can do to make it so it doesn't resize or add the filter, pressing select to start the game in its native resolution.
But then on the 3DS, that's like half the size of the screen, it really just looks awful because it's basically exactly half the size of the DS's screen or something.
The 3DSXL fixes the second thing by being big enough to be able to outright be what they would be showing you on the DS instead of having to scale down. I haven't played any DS games on the 3DS without scaling down though, so I can't speak for that end of it.
