Ok /vp/ I have a question.
Why do give a fuck about shinies since they can be easily obtained via Pokegen? This comes to my mind when I read shiny stories like people spending half of his life soft reseting or "hunting".

let's say you have a unique and perfect cat but you did next to nothing for it and it's a robot, it's almost indistinguishable from a normal cat but you know deep down it's a fake.

Not really. This is just a fucking game. Use Pokegen, take 5 minutes out of your life, and then spend the rest of your time contributing something with your life instead of pissing it away spending hours on something that will be worthless in the real world.

The few I do have are shinies of things I would never normally use, so that's a good way to get people to use different Pokemon, I guess.

Plus, if you give a Pokemon Pokerus there's like a billion different codes for it, most of which signify it's cheated. I imagine shinies my have something similar.

All this new EV, pokevirus, shiny stuff etc is a bit overwhelming and I already did retarded stuff like giving thunderbolt TM to a Luxray, if only I knew.

So what is the average chance of finding a shiny pokémon?

For me shinies are special because I've only encountered like 4 of them during my entire pokémon playing life (not counting the gibles and gyarados).
Creating a shiny is obviously not the same thing. I also find hunting for them stupid as hell.
