Is Pokemon Black/White V2 a good place to pick up for someone who hasn't played since Red/Blue? I'm not a nostalgia fag, so the new pokemon don't bother me, I just want to get back into the game series. Also, is it full of the entire catalog of pokemon, or is only a portion in the game?

I'd suggest BW1 or HeartGold/SoulSilver as a better starting point. BW2 has around 300 Pokemon in the game bar version exclusives, you'll have to trade for the others.

I'd recommend Heart Gold/Soul Silver as well. It's a sequel to gen 1 so it will feel familiar to you and it will reintroduce you back into the series quite nicely.

Then, if you're still interested, I'd recommend giving Emerald, Platinum, Black/White and Black 2/White 2 a go (not particularly that order). There's no real need to play any of the Gameboy Color games since the remakes are far superior.

Ok, looks like I'll be picking up the Black/White versions, or HeartGold/SoulSilver, whichever I come across first.

Also meant to ask, is the only difference between the colors just different exlusive pokemon still?

More or less, a few details are changed in the story line, but that's about it. Although in Black/Black 2, one of the locations is Black City whereas White Forest is found in the same location in White/White 2.

Actually is the only game that requires having played a previous game to enjoy better. Any other pokemon main series game is fine to get back.
Although if you want something modern, I guess Black and White.

I think you should get B&W2 and not the first one, because you truly don't miss out on a lot and you're more up to date. Also, more pokemon from other Gens to catch compared to the other ones and more features
