Nintendo does actually actively seek out things like this though, they got the r34 booru to get rid of their "pokemon" tag by sending them cease and desist letters so all their pokemon porn is now under the "porkyman" tag. Still, I doubt they'd go after PSD.

I feel that a huge part of /vp/ would be pretty surprised to find out that when a metagame that completely breaks off from Smogon and makes their own metagame, it still ends up like Smogon's +/- a few tier positions. So many people just think Smogon's some manipulative devil, when the only other competitive rule making community ends up having a nearly identical metagame regardless of their impact.

I feel that really should say something.

There are a few other tier systems in place on other simulators but tbh there's not that much difference in metagame because they all tend to ban the same key things. These things are banned for a reason, not because Smogon hates you

I have a really simple argument for bans.

Let's take for example Weather and Landorus-T.

You might say Weather is more broken than Landorus-T. It's probably true.

Weather makes the metagame more diverse. It provides new strategies, whether it's sand, sun, hail or rain, and allows would-be underused pokémon to shine, such as Venusaur or Sandslash. It also provides an occasion for NU/RU/UU pokémon to shine, especially if they have an ability like sand rush/harvest/chlorophyll/rain dish/etc. Overall, it makes the metagame healthier. They also have their fair share of checks.

Landorus-T is a hard-to-beat pokémon that can easily sweep teams. You need a dedicated check for it, and even then it can beat it with U-turn abuse. It forces you to build your team either around it or against it, or else you'll get swept. It's UNHEALTHY for the metagame.

When you decide to ban something, will you want to ban something that makes the metagame healthier or unhealthier?

The problem with Rain is that it not only provided speed boosts to pokemon, it also gave them a 50% power boost on top of the 50% power boost from STAB

Well, DrizzleSwim is banned, so the speed boost is gone.
It also gets its STAB reduced in Sun, meaning Venusaur takes nothing.
Politoed is also beaten by Tyranitar 1-on-1, thanks to its gigantic attack and useful pursuit in case politoed wants to flee to keep up rain later.

Keldeo was suspected in the same time as Torn-T, but eventually didn't get banned. He has a whole lot of counters in Celebi, Latias, Jellicent, etc...
Terrakion has two solid counters in Gliscor and Lando-T, though it has one big problem: either speed or power. CB hits hard, but is getting outsped by a lot of scarfers. CS hits hard, but often not hard enough. SubSD with Rock Gem can OHKO lando-T and Gliscor, but then it's getting revenge killed, while SubSalac fails to kill a lot of things.

The new gen and new fairy type might just change up the meta enough so that old movesets will no longer be applicable and people will have to come up with thier own strategies again.

Being told how to play just completelly eliminates the point of competetive gaming. Movesets being so readily available on sites like Smogon are the real reason you see so many similar teams. When you make things too easy, shit gets casual.

You're right man. Ever since they started making books about how to play Chess the whole scene has just gotten too casual. I miss the days when people had to teach themselves strategies, now it's all "Two Knights Defence" constantly
