Does someone know if it's possible to trade between a real GBA game and a fake one, and then migrate from the real to a Gen4 game without everything going horribly wrong?

You mean a fake GBA cartridge or an emulator?
You can't generally migrate pokes to a DS from a fake cartridge, but you can trade them over to a real one and then migrate them.
I think there's a way of trading from an emulator to a handheld, but i'm not sure how.
