I've already preordered X. I like the legendary (Y's looks see through to me and veiny) and I also like the colour blue. I'm not too interested in version exclusives since my friend usually gets the opposite version and we trade.

As for starters, I still haven't decided. I always go for water or grass though, never fire. But these three are all cool in their own way, so we'll see.

Some people are saying that Xerneas' shape makes more sense as a Y and that Yveltal's shape is more like an X.

X, probably. I like Xerneas, it reminds me of the god of life and death from Princess Mononoke, and I like the aesthetics of a stag legendary a lot.
It ultimately comes down to exclusives, though. I preferred Reshiram to Zekrom (Because it kind of reminded me of Falkor, who reminded me of my childhood dog), but I strongly preferred Reuniclus and Braviary over Gothitelle and Mandibuzz, so I got White.

Which is odd, come to think of it, because I haven't used a legendary on my team since I was a complete scrub in Gen II. Even now I'll keep soft resetting in front of legendaries to get the proper nature, and then never use them. Not sure why.

Except those people are retarded. The X and Y in the logo are made out of the respective legendaries features. Also, their names are Xerneus and Yveltal. Those people only think this because Xerneus kind of looked like a Y in the trailer because of the pose he was in. Xerneus is in X, and Yveltal is in Y.

and as for the starter I'll start both games run through until i can trade. Then trade over and repeat unitl I have two of each starter in my party.

I have done this in every game. from Red/Blue to Black 2/White 2.
Can't see any reason to change now.

I have no idea as of yet, mainly because I get the opposite version of what a relative of mine gets(I don't know what he plans on getting, but his decision is usually based on the version exclusive legendary).

As for the starter, I'm not sure about which I'll choose either, mainly because I want to at least know what their first evolutions are like typing wise.
