I'm not convinced that Zapdos dropped because of the power creep, though.. Rather, it's competition with Thundurus, and a large amount of pokemon added that specifically harm Zapdos (lookin' at you, Terrakion...)
My point is that if you just take away one of those disadvantages, or two, that Zapdos would see enough use. He's viable as is, totally. Makes great cores, actually..
His stats are good enough, even with the power creep that's occurred, because that said power creep is relatively mild as far as video games go.
