In fact I currently am rewatching the anime and yes, I cried at certain parts again.
It's pretty obvious that the anime lost a lot of its charm over the years. From uninspired backgrounds and character designs to episodes with repeating plots ad infinitum.
Yes, the Pokémon anime never really was good but it was better than what we have now.
And this certainly isn't an opinion because in the first season, they didn't even know they'd continue producing new episodes so of course they tried to make them more memorable back then.
