I mean...really? First of all - not a fairy type, but a Girl\Pink type. It's clearly visible. Second: this is a total cancer and just lame... My first thought was - that eeevilution is horrible, but i just deal with it, because we had a useless pinky little pokemon in every Gen (Clefa, Happiny), every human-type needs her own pokemon type and sure there needs to be some cute pokemon for girls.
BUT MAKING A NEW TYPE FOR A BUNCH OF FAIRY PAWKEYMANS?!?!

Since barely anyone in here is usefull, I'll help.

A couple of sources who seem to be reliable have said it will happen. Smash did a skit a few weeks back that can be interpreted as either a new type or a major type chat overhaul. So there is evidence to suggest a new type will be introduce and will be called Fairy, however it is not confirmed nor denied yet.

There's a bunch of evidence and leaks that support it, but long story short: No existing type fits its design except maybe Normal, which they've confirmed it isn't. They've also confirmed it's weak to poison, and it's definitely not grass type, so it has to be a new type. And its name has to do with fairies in every single language, so Fairy type seems the most likely.
And no, adding a new type wouldn't fuck up any mechanics or make previous games useless, nor would retconning the type of old Pokémon. They already did it with Magnemite.

Transitions from 1 to 2 were fine, and they added two types. Yes, I understand there are now 649, but even so. How will it fuck up the mechanics?

It's not dragon. Dragon is a highly revered, rare type, not an eeveelution type.

The only reason of Fairy type - is an opposite to a Dark - type. Like.. Faiy\Light vs Evil\Dark, but still it's TOO LATE for that. Too many pokemon and too many generations to make a new type that will make all previous ones look useless.
Think about anime for example? How they will explain all previous episodes? (not like i watch it)

And use just a logic. All those fairy-looking pokemon are not really popular. I see some Blissies and Clefairies but seriously. They are not that common to make a whole new type for them.
They look perfectly fine as Normal type...

Then why not trim it down and make it equal to the TCG?

Normal/Flying, Grass, Fire, Water, Electric, Ground/Rock/Fighting, Poison/Psychic/Ghost, Dark, Steel, Dragon.

That would bring it down from 17 types to only 10. Much easier to balance.

And the fact that people think that the interactions between 18 different types is too much really says a lot about how willing we are to learn and put effort into enjoyment.

Fairy type most likely wouldn't be "Light type" though, probably it would be more like a "Myth type" or something. Fairy doesn't just mean cute little girls with wings, it can mean all kinds of stuff. Xerneas could easily be a Fairy type, for instance. If anything it would probably be a counterpart to Dragon, not Dark.

You're forgetting it's a kid's game. For myself, I wouldn't have trouble learning a new type, but adding one here, one there, will eventually lead to a game that's too complicated for the target audience to just pick up and play. Pokemon thrives on the fact that it always has new players because there's always going to be new kids picking it up. That's why they can get away with the storyline being, for the most part, bland as hell. "There's an evil team! Beat 8 gym leaders and then fight the team and save the day!"

Things like Aerodactyl aren't dragons because dragons were supposed to be ridiculously rare, which I suppose is true when you weigh the number of dragon pokemon to the rest (especially considering the number of legendary dragon pokemon). Also, they aren't exactly reptiles or dinosaurs.

There are a whopping 27 Ghost types, and only three when the type was invented. You could take all of the Pokemon of the Fairy breeding group and still end up with more, even before adding prevos and evolutions that would be retyped as well.

I don't know many six year olds who play chess... And it's just the sheer amount of what they're going into. A lot of players don't seem to realize rock isn't immune to electric. If we as adults can barely get the full chart already memorized, than learning two more types won't help matters. Not to mention that if it's too much, kids simply won't want to play.

It's a learning experience. When I was younger I thought rock at least resisted electric until I saw that Aerodactyl was weak against it. Pokemon as a whole is already unwieldy as fuck and there is still a constant stream of kids AND adults taking at least a passive interest in it.

How many people do you really think play competitively compared to the entire player base? How many of them play for fun?

Remember anon, you don't have to master the material to be a fan.

So you want another BW style handholding, only even longer and extending through the full game to teach you how every pokemon type reacts to another? This would be a dealbreaker for a lot of the more hardcore fans. Again, alienating the fanbase.

They could put a tutorial in the PC or trainer school or something, but that again could seem rather overwhelming through sheer number to new kids and casuals.

What a shitty argument. Yeah, most of the playerbase probably doesn't remember every single weakness and resistance, but they're not going to stop playing because they add a type. I mean, when you heard about them adding two new types in Gen 2, did you think "HOLY SHIT NEW TYPES" or "Ugh, now I have to remember more type matchups"
