EV training was the closest trainers got to their pokémon. Not to mention that competitive trainers are more likely to give their pokémon tasty vitamins. And spend time leveling them up to 50 or 100 for battles. And getting max friendship on any physical normal type, due to return.

Pokemon should disobey you if your friendship is too low. Even in online battles. It would give trainers an incentive to pay attention to the friendship stat.

Regardless, all that will happen Smogonfags will just play on Pokemon Showdown, where this new friendship mechanic will not be incorporated in.

There will be 10 stages of Love. -5/+5. Each point increases EVs by 2%

Getting +5 love is one of the hardest thing in the entire game as it requires perfect pokemon-raising. 90% of the player-base will only reach +4.

Unless it's given at random, smogonfags will max the Evs they want then forget the pokémon forever. Too much for "love".

It's completely separate from the game itself, so it shouldn't have any impact on you at all.
