I have always just played Pokemon for enjoyment and nostalgia. I alwyas thought that EV training was dumb and that it ruined the game. I see the error of my ways. EV training isnt dumb, its for trainers who want to maxamise what they get out of their Pokemon. Everyone seems to EV train now, and i seem to lose more and more battles. I ask you good people of /vp/ to help me to understand EV training. I get that natures effect what stat gains you get, and i know that pokerus plus a power item is the most effective way to go, along with vitamins. mostly what i dont understand is IVs, how to find them, what they are, how you get them perfect, and what you guys think is fair for training. if i want perfect ivs should i get them in game myself, or do you use a custom distribution site for your pokes? Also is there anything special i need to keep in mind while ev training? I really appreciate your help /vp/ tl;dr: Please share your knowledgebase on IVs and EV training

>>12630388 Best EV Training is done by having 5 exp shares on your other pokemon, swapping them all out in battle and then finishing them, also making sure to always fight the lowest level possible to ensure you stay at low levers while EV training, and using the medicine to boost your early EVs as well as the bands for +4 to X

>>12631088 Are the extra experience shares so that you dont level up? i don't really understand

>>12631145 Its so the other poekemon gain more XP and the XP is split more keeping you at a lower level while collecting EVs

So wings give 1 EV....is it even worth it to spend the time finding them?

>>12631316 and why is it important to stay at a low level while ev training? also doesnt a pokemon get evs even if just hooked up by an exp. share? sorry im pretty new to this i tried reading up on smogun.

>>12631488 because you get the effects of the EVs as you level, the lower your level with more EVs until maxxed the better you'll be overall. The exp shares are helpful but the switching and only fighting lowest levels are extremes

I can answer any other questions
And if you'd like I have a few leftover Abras and Gastlys from breeding, with 31 IVs in SpA and Spd

>>12631647 Actually, in Black and white forwards, EVs are calculated AFTER BATTLES, it doesn't matter what level your pokemon is, to have the maximum possible stat your pokemon can have at it's level it must have the highest amount of EVs (subtracting the leftover 3 that won't give you anything) that's 252 EVs in whatever stat you want. It doesn't matter what level your pokemon is, if it's at a perfect IV and has 252 EVs then it will have the highest number it can in the given stat

>>12632375 that is very good to know, i assume thats so that if you catch a good nature at an already high level you can ev train it without having to go from level 1?

>>12632682 Pokecheck.org will show you how many EVs your pokemon has in each stat, it will also show you your pokemons IVs and it will give you an estimation on what your pokemons stats will be at level 5, 50 and 100 based on your IVs and EVs.
