How much do we know about sky battles?

Will there be some special gimmick when it comes to sky battles or are they just in the sky and thats it?

They are reworking the IV/EV system and adding a new type like in gen 2-3

Even if the GTS functions exactly the same as in gen V and you can somehow extract the Pokémon, you still wouldn't be able to edit them or create new ones from scratch. You'd be able to clone and nothing else. Actually hacking Pokémon still requires you to hack the game itself to determine the data structure.

My guess is that certain moves are affected differently.
For example, ground attacks won't work, attacks like Sky Attack would be twice as effective, electric attacks twice as effective, smack down twice as effective, etc.

which can be done in what, a week or two? when a generation lasts 3-5 years?

leveling up and catching old pokemon in a brand new game with all the new features, 3D battles, and in new region is way more fun that just trading them over. there'll be at least 300 pokemon catchable overall in X/Y I imagine

I want to raise and try out the new guys, to see NEW things.

Two hours or so of tedious transferring or dozens of tedious hours grinding and catching pokemon, waiting months for new games to come out so I can get the rest, spending hard earned money on said games, and waiting even longer for sparse events for the legendaries.

It was, but it was much more interesting than doing it a second time would be. The tedious part, really, was having to grind up the pokemon that evolved at high levels that I had no interest in beforehand. Not all of the games had very good grinding spots.

I hope they go through all the pokemon and pick the Sky Battle appropriate ones.

For example, the Magnemite line (even without Levitate) are appropriate, while the Doduo line is not.

Also, it'd make no sense for a Heatproof Bronzong to be excluded from a Sky Battle if a Levitate Bronzong was included.

Please Gamefreak, make it make sense.
