This little dude is Fire/Normal type.

Do you think that we will have less pure Normal-type pokemon this gen, and instead we'll get more dual-typed Normal pokemon?

Normal-type Gyms just got a whole lot more interesting!

that's an interesting idea, having less pure normals. otherwise there is something very sus about these typings. it's actually probably the thing i'm the most curious about at the moment.

I don't know why, but the ordering of dual-typed pokemon seems to be very specific. I wonder if the primary type will get strongerr STAB than the secondary type?

yeah that's the only adjustment i could really imagine them making...gamefreak is very deliberate with their typings. maybe it all has to do with fairy? fuck if i know.

It is for the design, but not for the gameplay mechanics. For example Geodude and Rhyhorn are both part rock and part ground, but Geodude who more resembles a rock has Rock as his primary type, while Rhyhorn who seems more like a ground creature has Ground as his primary type. Tentacool and Skrelp are another example.

He could be the new Shinx on earlier routes if we're lucky. Maybe a three-stage pokemon with different 3d images for the final lion/lioness evolution.

Yeah, most likely. Varying STAB for dual-types would've be interesting though. In your example, both pokemon would be more effective in different types of battles, despite having the same dual-type.

Well, if people are right and he becomes a manticore in later evolutions, the normal typing may be replaced with poison.

I hope so. Even though some people are saying "having Normal as a secondary type is stupid just to create more type combinations", I think it's going to be interesting.

It won't have any different effect. Spiritomb and Sableye will have the same STAB effect from Ghost and Dark moves. Same goes for Garchomp and Flygon with Dragon and Ground.

normal is normal.. it's supposed to be a boring type for pokemon that aren't anything specific

Why not? Shinx could be caught early on and it was a lion. Lillipup could be caught early and it was a dog. It's not saying that it's going to be a bad Pokemon. I kept Starly (Staraptor) all the way to the E4 and my friend kept a Lillipup (Stoutland) all the way to E4 in B/W.

How?

We haven't seen Normal as a secondary type until this gen (Helioptile has it as well). We haven't seen Flying as a primary type outside of Thundurus and UFO (which wasn't a pokemon) as well.

I'm not sure why the sudden shift, but part of me wonders if the relationship between Primary and Secondary typings is going to change.

Perhaps the super-effective/ineffective damage calculations will change for multi-typed pokemon? Or the STAB on moves used by a pokemon with the relevant secondary typing?
