Breeding was changed pretty drastically to be more convenient/easier to control.

It didn't change anything big, but it made a lot of small but significant changes, like infinite TM usage, less emphasis on HMs and seasons

IVs were introduced in gen 2, hence, Unown and Hidden Power. EVs have always existed.
