Ever since the Clone Wars of Melee, Smash has been more about introducing and keeping characters with more of a unique playstyle. There are still a few exceptions (Wolf), but one of the reasons why Jigglypuff has stayed in since the original, aside from it being a 64 original, is that it brings a unique playstyle to the table. Brawl and 4 Pokemon representatives. Pikachu and Jigglypuff are pretty much guaranteed to stay. Pokemon Trainer will likely stay, maybe switching Red and the Gen 1 team for another gen's protag. The most likely to get booted is Lucario, and if they're going to boot Lucario than they're not just going to bring in someone who's a clone of another character. If Sylveon shows up, it will need to be sufficiently different from another character to be worthwhile.
