Because everyone wants to interact more with their pokemon. Walking pokemon was alright, but this is the logical next step. It will make you feel more attached to your pokemon now that they actually show emotion. I honestly can't believe they put that much work into this game, as this is something I expected them to add in a later game.

I'm just interested in how certain pokemon work in that minigame.

e.g pokemon with no visible mouths, big badass legendaries turning into friendly cuties, REALLY large pokemon like Wailord.

They showed off Tyranitar barely fitting into both screens, and he's only 7' tall.
Although on that note, Zoroark is 6' tall, and appeared far shorter than Tyranitar than the numbers suggest.

This was in kingdom hearts 3D and it was pretty awesome, glad pokemon is doing it too.

But really, unique animations (angry, happy, etc.) for over 700 pokemon? That seems to good to be true. How can anyone say they miss sprites when 3D models allows things like this?

I'm very happy about the move to 3D.
In my opinion the sprites in gen 5 just looked too awkward, in both animation and overall look.

When they animate the sprites all deform a bit, and the sprite on your side of the battle looks really low-res since it's drawn closer.

Sure the animation for sleep, poison etc all looked nice, but they seemed like a pretty bad halfway point between gen 4 sprites and gen 6 models.

I feel the same. But if they are doing unique happy/sad/eating/etc animations for each pokemon, they can do a walk cycle as well. Walking pokemon will probably come back in the next remakes or gen.

Concerning pokemon? Very shallow. Their designs are the main appeal first and foremost, and though I like a lot of other odd-looking pokemon I find Cryogonal's really lazy and uncreative. Maybe I just suck, but I can't really bond with my Nuzlocke mons because they're dead after 1 defeat. I'm currently playing a white 2 nuzlocke and I kinda am down to 3 pokemon, which only 1 of has a moveset that isn't the worst. I'm gonna miss the fact I can't do a X/Y randomized nuzlocke. Normal Nuzlockes are just less exciting imo.
