So I'm hearing about this cool dude named Professor Sycamore that gives you one of the Kanto starters.

If that's true...then I wonder why? I hope it's more than just pandering to the folks who played the First Generation games.

Am I the only one thinking that there might either be a branch evolution, or that Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise will get alternate formes?

If either of those got new forms then every other starter would be debated upon for a new form as well. Also fanboys would lose their minds saying gamefreak is ruining their childhood.

Or it could be (and I'm really pushing the boat out here) that they sometimes give out old starters in more recent games and this is nothing more than the continuation of a trend.

The very fact that a gen 1 pokemon like Mewtwo can get two alternate formes has already opened the floodgates.

Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise are now fair game. Especially if they're going to be given to you early on in the game instead of postgame.

it's nothing new. in emerald you could get a johto starter, and HG/SS gave you both a kanto and hoenn starter

If you're getting these starters postgame you'd be right.

If you're getting them early in the game, there'd better be a good reason for it. Besides...with four rivals, it seems to only make sense to have two sets of starters.

And since there's Sycamore...guess what? 6 goes into five one time with a remainer of one. Guess who gets that remainder?

Again. All this is postgame material. If you're getting this starter at the beginning of the game it's gonna be a VERY different story.

You have to be the first to pick one. And then two of them pick the rest. What does that leave the other two? Generic pokemon? I don't think so.

Through some contrived situation, you and two others'll meet with Sycamore and he'll give the remaining trainers and you (because you're the fucking star of the show) a Kanto starter. And of course, you get first dibs because that's how it works in this game. Not necessarily at the beginning, but some point before the first gym.
