I feel like grass' only purpose is to be something that the shit types are super effective against.
It should at least deal neutral damage to bug, flying, and poison.

Not every type can be an offensive powerhouse. Look on the bright side, even though it has like 5 weaknesses, only two of them are really that common in standard.

Why?

Nobody really uses the defensive Pokemon anyway, it's more fun to have powerful attacks and sweepers instead of being the one taking the attacks.

Everyone loves the powerhouse types like Fire and Dragon, not Grass and Poison.

I know that feel OP. Grass types are always cool as fuck but so fragile and unuseful, unfortunately.
I hope GF doesn't fuck up Chespin, he has an amazing concept. It all depends on the secondary typing.

Think of it more like a traditional RPG, Grass would be like a Mage class, whereas the powerhouse Dragon type would be the Warrior class. All types have different purposes, not all types can be 'Press A to win' ass kickers.

I feel like grass is a bit underpowered. Grass should have less weaknesses (remove flying, it makes it too damn similar to bug) and should hit more types for neutral damage (steel and flying). Of course these are my opinions.

I'm with him in that I like Grass as the technical aspect of the trio. Water is useful and Fire is a powerhouse and Grass has neat abilities, and I like the neat abilities part.

Bug was kind of like that too, though it and Flying were the 'fast but frail' types in Gen 1.

I also really love nature and the color green. Grass and Bug have plenty of that.

I don't understand what you're trying to put across, are you saying that Gengar and Toxicroak are shit? Or Exeggutor and Sceptile are shit?

They're great if you know how to use them. Dragon types and pseudo legendaries are just 'easy mode' Pokemon. Anyone can win a battle with a team of Dragonite or Garchomp.

Okay kid, not everyone on this board is twelve years old and jizzing his pants over MUH DRAGONS. Personally I fucking love my Venusaur, he might not be great offensively but his status fucks are great. Leech Seed and Sludge Bomb have gotten me out of situations where I've been painfully underlevelled, I just stick Leftovers on that motherfucker and he sits down, gets some popcorn, and waits for everyone else to die.

The problem with "types as classes" is that within every type is a variety of Pokemon with different stat spreads. You either end up making Pokemon useless because of their type (physical Psychic types pre-Gen4) or you end up having all Pokemon with a certain type fill the same role.

Grass is a pretty good offensive type. It's great for stab and can be really good on dual types. It's on par or better thanfire with versatility. Same applies to bug type. Don't really get why people think its absolute shit. If you want a shitty type look at poison types.

While stuff like dragon and steel are objectively on top, that doesn't mean grass is bad.

He's not fantastic if you don't use weather and I generally don't bother with weather for in-game play, I use Scizor or Nidoking as my sweeper ingame normally. He makes a very nice status supporter.
