I think they're great, I used to wait forever to find the best pokemon to give my single use TMs to, many times for them to remain unused in the end. This way players can try out the different moves without feeling too committed.
Rather, they should just get rid of HMs altogether.

I absolutely never used TMs until the fifth gen. Being able to swap abilities as I need them is one of the better decisions Gamefreak has made in a while. Honestly, I wish Pokemon wouldn't "forget" moves, and you could instead swap their abilities every time you access a PC. Still keep the four move limit, but remove the need to go and talk to someone and pay something in order to relearn an old ability.

Oh God. This was a HUGE debate a week or so ago. Half of the people wanted tools added so you wouldn't need HM's if you didn't want, and the other half whined and bitched because >MUH EASYMODE. IT NEEDS TO BE HAAARRRRDDDDD.

A bunch of people quit because of it and it finally got rid of Dunky Thank Fucking God

This autistic tripfag who ran a bunch of surveys and would bitch and moan whenever he didn't get his way. On numerous occasions he flat out refused to go with the majority to support his own agenda, and he was one of the few people with the "power" to hold surveys and progress the project. He was OBSESSED with making everything ridiculously hard, and no matter how much everyone hated his ideas he would keep up with it. He finally quit because Tools were voted in.

It becomes especially troublesome when you want to go to certain areas only to have to replace one of your teammates because they just can't use the HMs you need. I for one hate having to be forced to consider an HM slave as part of my team.

I think they should get rid of HMs, or at least how they currently function. Most of them are a waste of space, and as >>12688648 said, I can't stand the idea of an HM slave. I'm not sure what mechanic you'd replace them with, though.

The idea a lot of people liked was keeping HM's, but having "sidequests" to gain Tools that would serve the same function as a lot of the shittier one's (Cut, Rock Smash, etc.) I think they got voted in, but to be honest no one in the thread talks about it anymore because of the severe buttdevestation it caused at the time.

That's sad, it's not a bad thought I guess, to have items that would serve in stead. Don't know about the sidequests.
Although I still like the idea of the Pokemon being the ones helping in these tasks. Afterall, it just makes sense in world. GF might just have the right idea with the rentals they added this Gen.

It surprised a lot of people actually, it was like we hit a nerve. People said it would make the game too easy (seriously, the Champion is going to be in the 80's but no HM's will make it too easy?) and a bunch of people left over it. I'm pretty sure the Tools are still being implemented though, so fuck then.
